#TheTPCWeekender spotlight on: Historic Marietta Square

MariettaGeorgiaLooking for the perfect staycation spot this holiday season?  The Peters Company has you covered!  Less than ten miles OTP you’ll find Historic Marietta Square, the pedestrian-friendly heart of Marietta, that houses trendy shops and restaurants.  We’ve compiled ten fun reasons to visit the Square:

  • Brunch game strong

Looking for a cozy and casual brunch spot?  The Marietta Local is the place to go.  Locally sourced ingredients, from-scratch food, and friendly staff can’t be beat.  Be sure to sample their fried chicken – it’s won an award four years running at the annual Taste of Marietta event.  Check out their menu.

  • Vegemite

That’s right, Marietta Square has a specialty foods store and bakery dedicated to Australian eats!  The Australian Bakery Café has the best meat pies north of the Gold Coast, and be sure to check out their imported Australian provisions, as well!

  • Wine & Dine

Looking for an event for the over 21 adults in your life?  Grab a babysitter for the kids and Uber on over to sample some delicious wine at the Marietta Wine Market every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon!  No fee, but suggested donations go directly to a different local charity each week.  Find out more HERE.

  • Taco Tuesday

Who doesn’t celebrate Taco Tuesday?!  Mariettans know that the best Taco Tuesday is at WR Social House.  They feature $2 tacos every Tuesday starting at 5pm, along with their regular menu of delicious food and craft drinks.  Holy guacamole!

  • Run, run, Rudolph

Looking to shed some holiday pounds?  *raises hand*  Don’t miss Marietta’s host of holiday races!   December 9th is the annual “Sleighbells on the Square” 5k, 1k, and Tot Trot, December 16th is the “Dashing Through the Square” 5k and 1k, and January 20th is the “Wonderful Days of Winter” 5k and 1k.  There’s no excuse NOT to be active this winter!

  • I scream, you scream…

For Sara Jean’s Ice Cream!  Sara Jean’s will satisfy any sweet craving you’re having, with their homemade gelato, ice cream, and dairy-free frozen dessert options.  Sample seasonal offerings inside the cozy shop and watch the world go by.  This is my favorite shop on the square, of course!

  • Farm-to-table

Grocery stores not carrying the seasonal produce you’re looking for?  Stop by the Marietta Square Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings, from 9am to noon!  This year-round event features an average of 65 vendors per week, where you can find local honey, produce, meat, eggs, and flowers.  HERE is a link to their Facebook page.

  • Clang, clang, clang went the trolley

All aboard the Trolley tour around Historic Marietta!  This one-hour ride highlights the city’s rich history and monuments, and is a must for any history buff.  Tickets can be found HERE.

  • Furkids

Bark Street Petopia is the place to go if you’re looking to pamper your furry bff.  This family-owned business carries specialty brands that you won’t find in an average pet store, and the friendly staff will help you find the perfect food, holiday treat, or toy for your favorite four-legged family member.

  • What’s old is new again

Do you love antiquing like we do?  That feeling of giving new life to someone’s previously treasured items?  Then you’ll love Dupre’s Antique Market, a “junker’s” dream.  Wander down the aisles of Dupre’s and let your imagination soar, picking up vintage postcards, clothing, jewelry, and even art!  The best part?  All local artists and contributors.  Find out more on their website.
